And so ends week 7.
Another late start to the day, mainly because breakfast was not until 7:30am. We probably should’ve been a tad more organized and left the hotel earlier than 9:30am given the forecast. We weren’t the only ones sweating. We followed the fairly useless tourist map for all of about five minutes, lost the little triangle, then Wendy lost interest in the rest of the sights. Admittedly, most of them were just streets, but we did get most of the buildings listed and other interesting looking things.
The standout sight for the day was the Abbey of Saint Philibert and the Porter’s Tower attached to the Abbey. You can read about it at https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Church_of_St._Philibert,_Tournus .
We returned to our cool room about lunch time to escape the heat. After a few hours we decided we needed to get back out there to see some more stuff and hunt for dinner. We only made it to the Lidl supermarket, bought our dinner and then went straight back to the hotel - it was not too bad in the shade and when the breeze was blowing, but out in the open, especially on the white concrete paths, it was HOT! You could feel the heat trying to cook you.
Back in our room, we watched Stage 10 of the TDF. We are hoping that it’s a little cooler tomorrow for our ride to Macon.

These mosaics were found underneath the stone tiles in the Abbey after an archeological dig.
They suspect there are many more.
