Walk: 16km; total: 89km
We slept in a bit this morning - 6:25am! After a breakfast of scrambled eggs, bacon and baked beans, bread, and cereal, Greg went for a walk whilst Wendy attended to some personal admin (washing and updating spreadsheets, etc). We were waiting for the tourist info centre to open at 10am. Armed with our trusty map from them, we followed the blue line in the morning and the orange line on the afternoon, for a total walk of 16km.
In 2022 Angers was ranked as France’s greenest city, the best city to live in and most recently the best metropolis for biodiversity. Angers offers a fantastic balance of city life and nature. Their buses all run 100% on biofuel and they have a lot of green space. The location is pretty good too, situated in the heart of France’s third biggest winemaking region and of the Loire Valley World Heritage Site. It has an historic quarter with narrow streets and many heritage buildings.
We enjoyed wandering the streets and seeing the sights. Whilst there were a lot of people around, it didn’t feel crowded, except at the fresh food markets this morning. We probably could have done with one more day here for Wendy to truly appreciate some of the history contained within some of the museums and galleries. Wendy also missed the Cointreau distillery; that would have been tasty!
